Professional Learning: The Harm of the N-Word on Black & Brown Students
A. Participants will be able to understand the historical timeline and implications of the N-word and other dehumanizing language. This also includes a deeper analysis of the 4 I’s of Oppression: Ideological, Institutional, Interpersonal, and Internalized oppression.
B. Participants will be able to understand the connection between being more culturally responsive and making effective decision-making when confronting a student struggling at and in the moment with dehumanizing (racist) language.
C. Participants can utilize three forms of microintervention strategies to disarm and ultimately dismantle dehumanizing language (and its culture).
D. Participants will be able to understand the psychological benefits of microinterventions vs the psychological costs of remaining quiet when hearing dehumanizing (racist) language.
